3rd Annual Plein Air Convention
Our survey to previous attendees and their comments revealed some new things for 2014:
1. SEPARATE WATERCOLOR AND PASTEL TRACKS
Due to high demand, we are adding a FULL-TIME TRACK for WATERCOLOR artists and a FULL-TIME TRACK for PASTEL artists, which we will place in separate rooms on the other side of the conference center. The watercolor and pastel attendees will share the exhibit hall and share the main track’s full conference sessions, but there will be full-time tracks for pastel and watercolor instruction. Note: If you wish to attend either the watercolor or pastel track primarily, we need to know, due to space limitations. When registering, please select the box for the WATERCOLOR or the PASTEL track. This indicates that these sessions are where you will spend the majority of your time at the convention (for our planning purposes). We will announce a stellar lineup of the world’s greatest watercolorists and pastel painters. You will also be able to attend other sessions within the convention.
2. MORE PAINTING
You’ve asked us to stop earlier and add more painting at the end of our full days in the conference center. Our field painters will be out with us on those afternoons each day, plus our half-day and full-day painting events.
3. ART SHOWCASE and SALE
Many people have asked for a chance to show their artwork and put their own artwork up for sale. Therefore we are adding an ART SHOWCASE, which will have limited positions available. For $50 you can purchase one showcase position for one painting (limit 3 positions per artist). Once a painting is sold, you can replace the sold painting with a new painting at no additional charge. Your position will include a card with your name, the painting title, and the price (which you set), and the medium and support (i.e., oil on board).
The showcase will be in the conference center for artists and galleries to view. The showcase will run starting the first day of the convention up until we are finished with the indoor conference center portion of our event. Paintings will be sold via the PleinAir Store at the convention for a small commission.
Click for Art Showcase Terms and Information.
4. GALLERY MEETINGS
The 2013 convention had many gallery owners and directors attending in order to meet artists and see their work in person. We intend to add some special gallery meetings to encourage gallery attendance as well. If you have a gallery and would plan to attend gallery meetings, please check that box when registering.
There have been many other suggestions on how we can make the event even better, which we are taking to heart.
6. NEW PAYMENT PLANS
If you register early, you can spread your registration price across more months. You’ll see the options on the registration page.
NOW is the time to register, we're expecting to sell out fast.
After you register, be sure to book your room at the Portola Hotel. We sold out two hotels last year, so don't wait.
2nd Annual Plein Air Convention
Paquet to Do Opening Presentation
Artist Joe Paquet Will Open the Plein Air Convention with a Special Prensentation:
Authenticity & Creativity : The Quest for a Singular Vision
According to Paquet: "We all deal this in our lives – this struggle for individuality.
It is my hope that this discussion will aid in both understanding how fear, ego and
external vs internal motivation affect our choices and what can be done as individuals
to move ever closer to an authentic vision."
The talk will be followed by a Q & A
Rhoads to Present Art Marketing Bootcamp II
Following a packed-house for early morning sessions last year for publisher Eric Rhoads' Art Marketing Bootcamp, which was the basis for his popular video series, Rhoads will return for more marketing sessions. Early risers (6:30 am) will be treated to the next level of art marketing training. Rhoads recommends artists attending view the video to be reminded of concepts from last year's sessions since he will not be repeating that material. (Note: Rhoads recorded additional material for the DVD which was not presented at last year's convention.)
Art Marketing Boot Camp II:
Day 1: How To Get Invited into Art Galleries
This session deals 100% with the question about how to approach galleries, how to get noticed, and how to get them to invite you in. It will also address issues you'll need to know once you're invited in. Rhoads will have special guest gallery owners to offer their perspective.
Day 2 and Day 3: Selling Art Through the Internet and Social Media
Rhoads will address the pros and cons of marketing on your website, using blogs, how to use and not use social media, mistakes commonly made, how to drive traffic, how to win in Google search, and more. Rhoads has invited special guests to offer tips and techniques as part of these sessions.
To attend Art Marketing Boot Camp II you need to be a registered attendee. There is no additional charge.
