Why Should I Attend?

We know you're probably thinking...."Ok, so you want me to get in the car or fly across the country, show up in Monterey, California with my paints and attend a convention about Plein Air?  Why should I?"

We're glad you asked.

It all started with a
dream our publisher had about the ultimate gathering of plein air artists. Last year we broke a world record for the largest number of plein air artists painting in one place in history. This year we have already exceeded our registration number and we will once again break the record.  Not only do we think it will be fun for you to be part of the largest gathering of plein air artists in history we think it will be good for you as a painter.

How cool would it be a part of a gathering of the finest plein air painters in the world (and some top figurative painters too!)?
We thought last year  would be pretty hard to top yet we have over 60 instructors this year and some giant names who are legends in the painting world who you may never get to see in person. Some of them simply don't do workshops or speeches.

The experience is unique. Unlike conferences where you have to sign up for individual workshops to study under one person we designed this so you can study under everyone. And we're not charging you for any individual workshop you sign up for. One flat fee gets you into everything. All the demos are on two stages and you can wander between them.

And we know you don't just want to watch. We know you want to paint and do it surrounded by the best painters in the world. So we've designed indoor days where you'll watch demos on stage and we'll have dozens of top tier painters in the field so you can set up next to them and paint or just watch them. Best of all you're not stuck with just one. You can wander from on great painter to another with sixty plus to choose from so you can get a feel for how each approaches painting. We have some of the best painters in the world
who are coming in to teach you.

Though the demos and painting with great painters is probably enough you'll also hear from some great speakers about painting, about marketing your art, about plein air in history and we've even got a big surprise in store that we cannot yet announce.

As a fan of outdoor art, there is no better place to share your skills and passions than right here at the 2nd Annual Plein Air Convention & Expo. We've found that one of the best benefits of a large group like this is that you have access to everyone and can chat with them about any subject. The best times can be the after hours making new friends and connecting with old ones. We have painters coming in from many other countries. Getting to know them could mean an invitation to paint in Saudi Arabia, Ireland, Mexico, France, New Zealand, Australlia and many other places.

Plus you can ask painters in the field to critique your paintings. You'll find it extremely valuable to hear what they say about all the paintings they critique. Plus you can bring your paintings in at night to our artists lounge so others can see what you've done and get their critiques and ideas.

Oh and if you love easels and paint and panels this will be like a plein air candy store. Many top suppliers are exhibiting in our expo hall. You can see it, touch it and buy it and most are offering special deals.

Oh, and did I mention the pink mist and crashing waves on the rocks of the Pacific Coast? This is a painters dream come true. Lots of places to paint stunning scenery. We recommend you hang on a few days more and paint the area. You can paint this area for a lifetime. Its beautiful.

While we're out painting you'll be a part of our new world record of the most plein air painters painting in one place simultaneously. You'll be in the photo, which people will hopefully see in hundreds of years... and of course that photo will be in Plein Air Magazine. Not only will you be a part of history, you'll can say you were in the magazine. So bring your easel!

So why attend? Refine your skills in a relaxed atmosphere. Take in educational demonstrations by high-level artists, develop marketing ideas and learn how to better run your art business and sell more art. There is no extra charge for any individual workshop, just one fee for everything other than a couple optional events. Every session, every demo.

This is a rare opportunity to connect with other outdoor artists from around the world, paint some of the most incredible scenery in America and take in this many invaluable painting demos from so many top artists - all while getting away for a long weekend in a peaceful, creative setting, making new friends and connecting with old friends. You can't help but leave as a better painter.

We can only accommodate 750 people and we believe it will be a sell-out conference. We hope you'll register early and join us for a few magical days doing what we all love.... plein air.
